These are increasingly turning into month notes, or week-when-I-really-think-I-need-to-reflect notes…
What went well…
- I’ve reflected on how we’ve evolved Digital Medicines since I joined and I’m quite happy. We’ve combined some teams so they’re more efficient at meeting user needs. We’ve changed how other teams are structured to give more clarity and accountability.
- I started getting stuck into a new area. There are plenty of challenges, but I think they’re mostly ones I’ve seen before, and we have some super strong people and foundations, so I’m excited.
- I started listening to What You Do Is Who You Are by Ben Horowitz. I think its going to help me be more intentional about culture at work.
What didn’t…
- I have a nagging feeling that some of the changes we’ve made on Digital Medicines are just rearranging the deckchairs and won’t solve the fundamental problems.
- Our workshop for the Digital Child Health work which could have gone better. We were too ambitious with what we wanted to cover and started losing people. It’s a complex programme with a complex history, and part of me had been happily surprised with progress on the vision, so its not a massive surprise.
- I noticed myself getting angry or defensive when people disagreed or disrupted sessions I’d planned. This is usually a sign I’m low on sleep, stressed and haven’t cycled enough, so I’m looking forward to fixing that!
Opportunities…
- Getting back into weeknotes!
- I think I’m getting better at identifying some of the underlying systemic problems that hold our teams back. Understanding these will help me get better at solutions!
